
Obituary for Luther Lawrence King Jr.
Luther Lawrence King Jr., age 78, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 29, 1947, Luther proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose warmth and humor lit up every room. Known for his endless supply of dad jokes, often laughing hardest at his own, Luther was a true jokester with a heart full of joy.
He found deep fulfillment in Bible study and was a passionate Atlanta Braves fan, never missing a game. Whether quoting SpongeBob or playing with his grandkids, Luther was a big kid at heart who embraced life with wonder and love.
Luther is survived by his beloved wife, Janice King; son, Mark King and his wife Michelle; daughter, Sandy King; brother, Mike King and his wife Karen; sister, Vickie Vess and her husband Dale; Sister in law Susan Stone and husband Kevin; Sister in Law Judy Locke; grandchildren, Hayley King (Dylan Meuesen), Kendall King (Bill Welchel), and Abby King; great-granddaughters, Carleigh Crane, Lawren Crane, and Sadie Meuesen; and great-grandsons, Kendon Crane and Oliver Meuesen.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his laughter, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Dalton Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home, with Reverend Dale Lawhorne and Reverend Hermon Parker officiating.
